Posture and mobility

Hours spent sitting at a screen, behind the wheel or looking down at a phone: our days shape our posture. The shoulders round forward, the head juts out, the lower back stiffens. Little by little, our range of movement shrinks, often without us noticing.

Two sides of the same quality

Good posture isn't a rigid position you have to hold. It's the ability to align yourself effortlessly and to move freely around that alignment. It takes mobility, so your joints can use their full range, and stability, so your muscles can support your body.

The Reformer works on both at once. The springs support the movement where range is lacking and guide it towards better alignment.

In the studio: the mermaid

Sitting on the carriage with one hand on the footbar, you push the carriage away as you bend to the side, your other arm reaching overhead. The mermaid opens up the ribcage, stretches the whole side of the body and brings mobility back to the spine.

Here again, precision makes all the difference. A shoulder that lifts, a hip that comes off the carriage, a twist instead of a side bend, and the stretch loses its effect.

Alexandra's eye

You can't see your own posture: you feel it, and that feeling is often misleading. Alexandra observes it from the outside and spots the imbalances you don't notice, such as one shoulder sitting lower than the other or a head that drifts forward.

Trained in fascia-based methods, she varies directions, ranges of motion and rhythms from one session to the next. Fascia, the tissue that wraps around and connects the whole body, thrives on varied movement: a body that moves in every direction stays more supple and more responsive.
